Hart House

I haven't been posting regularly, I know...  Life has been in the way but nothing is in the way for a good afternoon lunch at Hart House.  It is near Deer Lake, a beautiful lake.  They have an afternoon lunch special and guess what I ordered? The Express Lunch.  The lunch special is a 2 course meal with an appetizer and entree.  There are two appetizers and three entrees to choose from.

My friend ordered the soup for her lunch. The Trumpet Mushroom Soup is definitely a winner among the dishes we ordered there.  It would have been nicer if it's creamier but for those who don't like creamy soup.  It's definitely good enough.  The mushrooms weren't completely blended and there are still small mushroom bits in there.  Taste wise was a little bland but for people who doesn't like complicated taste and spices, this is wonderful.

The other appetizer is a Warm Goat's Cheese Salad.  The lettuce and beets are nice.  The beets, in particular, wasn't marinated for too long and hence it doesn't have a strong vinegar smell.  If you aren't a big goat cheese fan because of the funny taste of goat milk, then this dish is not a problem for you.  I can hardly taste any of the weird taste at all.  The lady at the next table wanted to order the salad but she requested a different cheese.  However, they weren't able to do so and she was served with goat cheese instead.  When the waitress asked if the salad was ok for her, she said, "This is fantastic.  The cheese doesn't have any smell."

The entree dish is the daily chef's special chicken risotto.  It was served right out from the stove as it was piping hot on the table!  The combination of risotto with chicken and corns is not new and the sauce was nothing to get excited about as well.
